1 This tutorial will explain how to hack a rotary telephone and convert the analog numerical values into digital values using a computer, a microcontroller and software.
Find two rotary telephones.

Remove microphone piece and replace it with an ear piece from 2nd rotary phone

Mount earpiece in former microphone cavity. This earpiece wih serve as a microphone.

Use a mini-jack stereo cable and cut off one end. Remove the casing. There are two cables inside. Splice casing from each cable and twist the ground wires together.

Attach mini-jack stereo cable to end of the telephone.

Wire 4 ends into 2 stereo cables. One for the mic and one for the ear.

Alternatively, you could use the end of the telephone jack's terminals to wire stereo cables.

use hot glue. Notice 2 cables: One for ear and one for microphone. Plug both stereo cables into computer.One for mic input and one for audio out.

To convert analog numbers into digital numbers, remove casing.

-locate the red and blue wires-screw two wires into each terminal. The rotary mechanism is the brain of the device. Each number dialed corresponds to a pulse. Example "0" is equal to 1 pulse and "1"is equal to 2 pulses.

Mount the two wires-1 wire goes into ground and the other wire into signal of a microcontroller.(phidget or arduino.) We are going convert an analog signal into a digital one

Two wires mounted into the digital input of a microcontroller. A software
patch will convert analog signals numerically into digital signals.
